Parents In Power
Parents in Power began in 2008 as part of the Parent Participation Grant within the Aiming High for
Disabled Children Programme. In 2010 with the Year 3 grant from the Department of Education we became an
independant voluntary organisation but still work very closely and with the support of Children's Services
within Gateshead Council, especially with the Disabled Children's Team. In June 2011 we became a registered charity.
We support parents/carers to fully participate in the development of services by becoming regular
attendees of the vast amount of meetings/forums and partnerships which goes on in Gateshead, and
to support parents in doing this we provide regular support, travel expenses and where necessary
childcare costs. We also provide training opportunities
We also support parents to participate in local, regional and national consultations which may affect the services they receive
We are members of the National Network of Parent Carer Forums, click here for more information. National Network of Parent Carer Forums where a local representative ensures
that our views reach National level.
